Hosta 'Yellow Waves'
An old-school vintage classic registered by legendary hybridizer Paul Aden in 1978, this eye-catching small-to-medium cultivar infuses playful architectural form directly into your shade beds. Derived from a cross of 'Wogon' and 'Chartreuse Wiggles', its exceptionally long, narrow, lance-shaped leaves emerge a brilliant, glowing yellow-gold in spring. What makes this hosta truly unique is its flat, outward-flowing growth habit paired with tightly rippled, cascading leaf margins that create the unmistakable illusion of rhythmic movement. Adding a striking secret color detail, the vibrant gold foliage is carried by beautiful, rich red-speckled petioles that carry intense contrast down to the plant's base.
In mid-summer, clean, upright flower scapes arise gracefully above the cascading gold mound, displaying dense clusters of soft, pale lavender-to-white flowers that bring an airy, delicate touch to the highly textured leaves below.
Maturing to a low, spreading profile of 9 inches tall and extending up to 39 inches wide, it acts as a wonderful, dense focal point that softens front borders, shady walkways, or woodland patio containers. Exceptionally hardy across Zones 3–9, it boasts excellent sun tolerance for a gold variety, maintaining its unique wavy edges and shifting gracefully to a soft chartreuse-lime color as summer progresses.
Pair this stunning cultivar with premium companion plants from our collection, like the vibrant, fiery tones of Echinacea 'Summersong Firefinch' or the delicate red-veined detailing of a Japanese Painted Fern 'Red Beauty' to build an unforgettable, high-contrast display.
Info: Our plants are grown in 5.25 x 5.25 x 5.25 inch pots and develop large root systems. These are not a small liner but a plant you can put right into your garden. That means you will get a bigger plant right away compared to a starter plant. We guarantee you will get a true to type healthy plant that you will love for years. If you have any problems or questions we are happy to help. During early spring plants may still be breaking dormancy so they may appear smaller than they will be when they fully leaf out. In Fall or Winter the plants may be dormant which means the may be losing or have completely lost their leaves.
Shipping: We do not ship to Hawaii or Alaska due to cost and import restrictions. Plants will be removed from their pots and loose soil removed and the rootball placed in a bag. We are an inspected nursery from the VA Dept of AG.
