Hosta 'The Future King'
A regal and majestic collector's variety introduced by hybridizer Rick Goodenough, this medium-sized standout brings an air of elegant fantasy directly to your shade garden beds. A stunning sister seedling to 'Aragorn', this variety is highly sought after by collectors and Lord of the Rings enthusiasts alike. Its uniquely wedge-shaped, cupped, and heavily textured aqua-blue leaves emerge with a thick waxy coating, instantly commanding attention and acting as a powerful focal point in any leafy realm. What makes this hosta truly exceptional is the crisp, irregular white margin that neatly edges each rippled leaf, highlighting its sculptural, architectural form.
In early to mid-summer, strong and upright scapes rise gracefully above the cool blue foliage mound, crowned with dense clusters of soft lavender flowers that bring an airy, delicate contrast to the heavy, bold leaves below.
Maturing to an impressive 17 inches tall and spreading up to 24 inches wide, it delivers a tight, distinctively structured specimen habit that fits perfectly in borders or woodland containers. Exceptionally hardy in Zones 3–9, it boasts robust substance that naturally deepens in color intensity, puckering, and character with each passing season.
Pair this stunning cultivar with excellent companion plants from our collection, like the unique, dark foliage of Astilbe 'Dark Side of the Moon' or the brilliant structural fronds of the 'Brilliance' Autumn Fern to build a deeply layered, vibrant shade vignette.
Info: Our plants are grown in 5.25 x 5.25 x 5.25 inch pots and develop large root systems. These are not a small liner but a plant you can put right into your garden. That means you will get a bigger plant right away compared to a starter plant. We guarantee you will get a true to type healthy plant that you will love for years. If you have any problems or questions we are happy to help. During early spring plants may still be breaking dormancy so they may appear smaller than they will be when they fully leaf out. In Fall or Winter the plants may be dormant which means the may be losing or have completely lost their leaves.
Shipping: We do not ship to Hawaii or Alaska due to cost and import restrictions. Plants will be removed from their pots and loose soil removed and the rootball placed in a bag. We are an inspected nursery from the VA Dept of AG.
